Camp Casey, Crawford Texas

My View From The Ground!

Day 1 Aug 20, 2005

For a town of 705, these folks sure seem to need a lot of signs to let you know you are in Crawford (More on the page 2 set and several not even photographed.

PRO-WAR signs a plenty to be seen in town and lining the road out to the Camp Casey site.

This repugnant sign was placed right at the end of the long row of crosses that comprise the Arligton West Memorial near Camp 1.

Just below we find this sign.  Peace.

A small portion of the display ( there are many more shots on the second day page)

A beautiful display hanging inside the tent at Camp Casey 2.

A close-up of a couple of our signs.

Some of the signage we brought to our meeting with the president.

The "Yellow Rose", a gift shop specializing in Bush memorabilia just up the road from the Peace House.  It is the temporary home to a huge display featuring a large replica Liberty Bell and tablets bearing the ten commandments.

The display was the topic of a total propaganda piece in the local Waco paper.  Among the crap contained were allegations that families of the fallen fear we will show up and protest funerals of dead soldiers.

Some shots of Camp Freeper 2, Home to 8 bikers and two of their mamas.

Impressive turnout huh?

Never understood this bullshit catch phrase.  I guess it means that we have to go slaughter other folks en masse ever 20 or 30 years or Saddam is going to have WMD hidden under your bed!

This guy had several great messages to share with us.

A little self portrait...

Camp 2 was packed.  Great people and great signs everywhere you went.

Distressed Sister in full back rack glory!

And me...

One of my personal favorites of the signs I saw there.

Another great message!

This is the "Future Historical Marker" I placed at the site.

Setting up the Arlington West Memorial at Camp Casey 2.

The finished memorial.

Always great to see the old guarde keeping it real!

Just one of the many great speakers from Veterans for Peace.  Her husband is serving in Iraq right now.

Evening in the camp.

The Camp as the sun was setting on our first night.

As the sun set, everyone gathered at the site for a moving memorial service.

Marine and Iraq veteran, Jeff Key playing "Taps" at the service.
